DELF and DALF are internationally recognized French certificates issued by the French Ministry of Education. DELF tests levels A1 to B2, while DALF covers C1 and C2. Once obtained, the certificates are valid indefinitely. They are required for university admissions and job applications in French-speaking countries. Exams are held at approved centers and preparation courses, such as those offered by the ILS in Switzerland, are highly recommended.
The language levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) are divided into six levels from A1 to C2. A1 and A2 cover basic knowledge, B1 and B2 stand for independent language use, while C1 and C2 represent an advanced to almost native speaker level. To determine the appropriate level and create a suitable curriculum, the ILS carries out a placement test at the beginning.
The fide-Test, developed on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), is recognized throughout Switzerland and certifies language skills in German, French and Italian at levels A1, A2 and B1. As an accredited examination center, the ILS offers fide tests and provides support with specific preparation courses.
