I recently joined the super-intensive class taught by Karin Steiner. So far, it’s been amazing—her teaching style, the variety of activities throughout the lessons, and the caring and fun environment she creates in class have all made this experience truly enjoyable. I’ve noticed that I’m already picking up quite a bit of the language, and I’m able to use it when I’m out and about after just two weeks of lessons! Learn more about our German courses

Yes. That's exactly what the conversation course is for. You'll practice retrieving your existing vocabulary more quickly, responding more spontaneously, and expressing your thoughts more freely in German.

The focus is on speaking freely, reasoning, and active communication. You discuss topics, express opinions, and practice everyday situations, rather than focusing primarily on grammar rules.

On the current course page, A1, A2, B1, and B2 are listed as mixed-level groups. The course is therefore also aimed at learners who are not yet at an advanced level but would like to use their spoken German more actively.

The class takes place on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the ILS Bern . Each session lasts 6 weeks.

Yes. The conversation course is free for students already enrolled in an ILS course. External participants pay CHF 150 for a 6-week course block.

Regular conversation practice can help you spend less time searching for words and build more confidence when speaking. The goal is to carry on conversations more naturally, even if not every sentence is perfectly worded.

Not necessarily. A standard German course systematically builds grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking skills. The conversation course focuses more on active oral practice and is therefore particularly well-suited as a supplement.
